“Peter Drucker was right when he said, ‘Underneath all our problems is a raft of entrepreneurial opportunities.’ This represents a colossal opportunity for folks like you to shed light on an incredibly difficult situation that we all face, as citizens and as practitioners of the art and science of public relations. ”
Opening comments by Leonard A. Schlesinger, President, Babson College and Moderator of the 2009 Critical Issues Forum

Back by popular demand, Babson College President Leonard A. Schlesinger was front and center at the Council of Public Relations Firms’ Seventh Annual Critical Issues Forum – as moderator of another spirited Socratic Debate and facilitator of a Keynote Discussion with David Gergen. Prompted by Schlesinger and questions from the audience of more than 200 public relations and business leaders, the distinguished panel of four seasoned PR pros and one business journalist discussed the impact and depth of the current economic crisis, gradually arriving at a consensus on four important paths toward rebuilding trust and confidence in business, the media, and other organizations:
Bold leadership based on values, authenticity, and straight talk.
Engagement with stakeholders at the virtual, physical and mental levels.
Matching words with actions, because “spin doesn’t work anymore.”
Repairing the disconnect between Wall Street and Main Street values.
